Jake's Carp Camp.

Jake invites pairs to spend an intensive week of carp fishing at Sierra Brava where he teaches everything, and is with you every step of the way.

The full-monty!

These guys had the carp camp treatment.

I realise that all carp anglers are different and some are happy to be left to fish on their own for their holiday, but some clearly need more guidance. My guiding is included and part of all the 3-14 day packages, but do you ever feel that you aren't quite getting it right, or you are unsure about techniques, skills, and your confidence is lacking. This is where I can help.
Jake's carp camp is only for a pair of anglers. From the moment you arrive I take you under my wing for the whole week teaching you the basics to start off with, slowly progressing to more strategic methods to catch carp. My lessons range according to your experience but could cover the following:

Carp Camp teaches the following:

  • clipping up,
  • using landscape markers
  • casting techniques
  • bait and its application
  • pva and its uses
  • making spod mixes
  • throwing stick skills
  • lead-release methods
  • spodding
  • what you should do when a run occurs
  • playing carp to avoid hook-pulls
  • reeling in to avoid snags
  • setting up everything properly i.e bivvies, pods, programming alarms etc...
  • tying rigs
  • tying knots
  • considerate carp care
  • holding carp properly
  • photography tips
  • returning carp
  • freeing snagged fish
  • basic watercraft knowledge
  • reacting on opportunities to catch more carp

What does it cost?

My rig lesson.
Carp Camp costs an extra 15 pounds per day per person, added to the cost of your package. Carp Camp is recommended for the seven day "Norma" package so the total cost would be 655 pounds for the week, plus your bait and drink and flight costs. I would advise you on exactly what terminal tackle to bring with you, plus I carry my tackle box for emergencies. I wake for all your runs and help with everything. When I feel you are both coping and working as a team, I begin to allow you to do more yourselves to help you gain confidence. By the end of the week you should be a different angler than when you arrived.
Occasionally I will cast for you if it's dark, I will bait up for you, and I will check everything you do, until I am positive you are understanding the skills you have been taught. Don't forget I used to be a teacher so this is what I shine at, and now I have the opportunity to teach something I enjoy, you will benefit greatly from the Carp Camp experience.
When I teach Carp Camp I am firm and fair. I don't pussy foot around and if you are doing things wrong you will be told. This is not for anglers who can't take constructive criticism or don't want to learn. It is a lesson from start to finish and you should return to your home country shattered! I will work you very hard and as I always say "Good enough is not good enough - you need to be doing everything exactly right!"
