Jake's Biography & Experience

Sierra Brava Dreams is a new guiding venture from experienced carp angler Jake Langley-Hobbs. Read on to find out more...

Jake loved fishing from a young age.
Jake Langley-Hobbs began fishing at the age of seven in the North of England. His passion began on the river Esk in Sleights fishing for trout, and sea fishing off the piers and harbours of Whitby for whatever came along! After a move to London in 1987 he took up coarse fishing until he saw two carp anglers at his local pond in Hampstead. That is where the carp bug was caught from!

Fishing a variety of London based waters, and lakes and ponds in the South West of England, his love for carp fishing grew tenfold. So much in fact that his education at university suffered and he failed his first year as a result! A wise decision was needed so he gave up the addiction to continue on, successfully, with his studies.

In 2007 the sport returned to Jake’s life through funny circumstances. Whilst waiting for a girlfriend to finish her shopping he picked up his first copy of Angling Times in 15 years; the front cover displayed ‘Mary’ the record breaking German common and that was all it took. He was soon buying new equipment and returned to the art of carp fishing.

Jake's second European capture weighed 55lbs!
Much had changed in 15 years in the UK carp scene; it wasn’t that Jake wasn’t enjoying the challenge, he just needed a bigger slice of the pie, so he packed his bags, loaded up his van, and together with his two dogs he left for the historic venue that he had read about many years before - Lac de St.Cassien. The rest you could say is history!

Jake went on to fish a plethora of punishing public waters taking him across the borders of France, to Germany and Italy. It has to be said that the majority of Jake’s big carp success was certainly had in France, landing large carp from literally every lake he tackled, including breathtaking venues such as Cassien, St.Croix, Madine, Liez and the Orient.

Jake’s ability to successfully tackle waters for the very first time and adapt quickly to achieve results, or the way he can sit it out and live happily on the bank for months, have made him a household name in carp fishing. His reputation for signing off his many articles, stories and blogs with Jake and the dogs was his trademark. Sadly, and after ten great years, Charley passed away on 26/12/2010 so now it's just Jake & Flash!

Jake’s carp fishing blog was one of the first of its kind in angling history due to the fact it was actually written from the bank whilst undertaking his sessions. The blog was actually constructed and born at Cassien using an internet stick, in January 2009, and overnight it gained a huge and loyal gang of followers; allowing anglers to live the dream alongside Jake wherever they were reading it from. Fishing through torrential storms or setting up in heavy snow ensured Jake always satisfied his audience to take them through the highs and lows of a hardcore carp session.

Described as inspirational and a hero are just some of the kind words to sum up Jake Langley-Hobbs; his adventure however has now taken on a new, and even more challenging dimension.

After moving to Spain to carry on his quest, Jake decided that after spending over 750 nights on the bank, since his epic journey began, he would devote the next leg of his mission to providing a quality service for other anglers with the sense for adventure. Jake feels he has found the perfect water for guided fishing trips in the shape of Sierra Brava, fishing for wild, public-water carp in beautiful surroundings. Jake now invites you to come and be looked after and guided by himself on the banks of Sierra Brava.

It is an opportunity surely not to be missed....
